The advice reminds me of one of the lessons from the book Rich Dad Poor Dad :  Anyone can make money yet developing financial literacy is the key to having success with money.  Here, anyone can make contacts/send out links via Facebook and Twitter.  To separate yourself from everyone else you have to take full advantage of the opportunity that you have to gain followers.  As opposed to sending them to your blog and overwhelming them, send them to a comfortable, distraction-free landing page full of your content!
