There are numerous platforms to choose from but I would suggest sticking to the popular ones.  Shareaholic has a great article on the different platforms to choose from:

 Blogger
The site is very easy to navigate and it is integrated with all of the widely used Google Apps.  You will certainly need to use Google to search how to complete certain tasks if you are not familiar with HTML.

Wordpress
Wordpress offers two platforms: Wordpress.com and Wordpress.org - You will not have as much creative freedom on Wordpress.com yet Wordpress is a great choice overall considering they are the most used blogging service on the net!  Many say that Wordpress is best suited for professional users that want to add plugins and upgrades to their blogs.

Tumblr
Tumblr is owned by Yahoo and is often described as a social networking site as opposed to a platform for blogging.  If you enjoy Twitter, Tumblr might be the best choice for you!
