Blogging - Tips of the Week

  1. Forget the Followers. Bloggers with potential often waste it by attempting to generate the most followers in the shortest amount of time.  They use apps to increase their followers and they do not understand the precious time they have wasted.  Time that could have been spent creating high quality content went to hitting the 'Follow' button an endless amount of times.  If you could differentiate yourself by hitting the follow button, everyone would be a successful blogger.
  2. Another News Outlet. Do not be another source of information.  Do not just copy and paste news stories.  There is Fox, CNN, Yahoo...along with numerous other sources for daily news.  Yes, blog about daily news but do it in a unique way.  Did I get your opinion out of your most recent post or did I receive a slight remix of what I just read on CNN.com?
  3. Film It. Yes, I know that you are camera shy.  Yes, I know you have anxiety.  Guess what!? Everyone does! No one wants to read anymore.  We want to watch, be read to and we want your personality - all of it!  If you are not filming content for you blog you are slowly but surely being left behind.  The only time that most internet surfers would rather read than watch is when they are at work or in class, how will you entertain them throughout the rest of their day?
  4. Collaborate. Do you run a sneaker blog? Write the top shoe brands informing them that you are interested in creating a limited edition version of their most popular product with your company logo on it.  You want to give the product to 10 of your lucky readers.  If they decline your offer do not give up! Alternatives! Offer to post a review of one of their upcoming releases.  Ensure that you make the person that responds a personal contact that you communicate with on a weekly basis.
  5. All In. You will not be successful if you do not do something involving your blog everyday.  Today, your task might be promoting your blog.  Do not just tweet 5 people.  Instead, identify 10 magazines in the same field as your blog.  Send letters or emails to these publications, thanking the editors for producing such high quality content and inviting them to visit your blog.  Then, write 10 people on Twitter and Facebook.  Finally, post an ad on Instagram promoting your latest blog post!
